What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is defined as constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity.

All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, reflecting the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing, and more — the core movements of life. The more work you do in less time, the more intense the effort. By combining constant variation, functional movements, and intensity, this approach leads to dramatic gains in fitness.

The community that spontaneously forms when people train together this way is a key part of why CrossFit works, and it's given rise to a global network of CrossFit affiliates numbering over 13,000. Harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition, and fun of sport yields an intensity that's hard to match any other way.

The aim of CrossFit is to build broad, general, inclusive fitness, supported by measurable, observable, repeatable results. It prepares you for any physical contingency, not just the unknown, but the unknowable too.

While CrossFit challenges the world's fittest, it's designed for universal scalability, making it the right fit for any committed individual regardless of experience. We scale load and intensity, we don't change the program. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not by kind.

Why Train With Us

CrossFit's methodology is universal, every affiliate worldwide teaches the same core principles. What makes the difference is coaching. At Hongtai:

  • Every class is led by certified coaches watching your form, not just running a clock

  • Movements are scaled to you. Whether this is your first class or your five hundredth, the workout adjusts to your ability — not the other way around

  • Small class sizes, capped at 12 members, mean real, individual attention, not just a room full of people doing the same thing alone

  • A genuinely mixed community, locals and expats, complete beginners and competitive athletes, training side by side
